So you’ve dropped off your car at our dedicated Renault Service Centre in Altrincham and you’ve picked up your courtesy car. You’ll drive off merrily to work. But what will happen to your car during its service?

At our Altrincham Renault Service Centre, your car is in good hands. Regular servicing is vital to keep your Renault running at its optimum, but it will also improve your car’s resale value when the buyer sees those stamps in the handbook.

These days, the service interval for many Renaults is every 18,000 miles or 24 months, but check your manual and don’t get caught out. Miss that service window and you could be risking damage to your engine as well as knocking hundreds off the trade-in value of your car.

Note that servicing your car covers around 85% of your MOT test. But that doesn’t mean you can skip your annual test – the MOT is a legal requirement of keeping your car on the road.

There are usually two types of service carried out by main dealers: an interim service and a full service. You’ll pay more for the full service, but more work is carried out.

Interim service

The bottom line with all services is an oil and filter change. It’s vitally important in keeping your car running reliably as oil touches every moving part. It also helps bump up your miles per gallon. An interim service will also include a visual inspection of your Renault and a top up of all the engine’s fluids – washer fluid, brake fluid, antifreeze and power steering.

The garage should also check all the car’s key components so that they’re confident your Renault is in full working order. A good garage should check your brakes, too, and recommend any additional work.

Manufacturer’s full service

A full service adds a few layers to the work carried out in the interim service. There’ll be a further 30 or so extra checks on key components, a change of spark plugs, and your fuel filters will be swapped. Other items as recommended by Renault may also be replaced.

The full service will cover all wear, service and maintenance required. The wide range of checks includes:

  • Oil and oil filters
  • Brake fluid
  • Brakes
  • Wheel alignment
  • Power steering fluid
  • Steering
  • Shock absorbers
  • Suspension
  • Lights
  • Anti-freeze coolant
  • Windscreen wash fluid
  • Exhaust
  • Battery
  • Tyres
  • Windscreen wipers
  • Charging systems.
